Displaced Haitians worried about hurricane season

Port-au-Prince, May 31 (Prensa Latina) Citizens who suffer the consequences of forced displacement due to violence in Haiti, show their concern before the cyclonic season that begins tomorrow and that here it will be hyperactive.

They live with the uncertainty that this stage – which will end on November 30 – will further complicate their situation in shelters.

According to Le National newspaper, the displaced are asking for urgent intervention by the competent authorities to protect their lives and those of their loved ones. They allege the lack of clean-up works and infrastructure to channel the waters.

They are also very concerned about living under tents and carpets, and certain objects as metal sheets could be fatal in case of wind gusts.

They fear an accident at a time when many hospitals are dysfunctional.

Recently, Haiti’s National Emergency Operations Center reported that the cyclone season will be hyperactive.

Emmanuel Pierre, director of operations of the aforementioned entity, warned that this nation will face 23 named phenomena, including 11 potential hurricanes.
