Miller issued a statement saying that the United States is “deeply concerned by the decision of Nicolás Maduro and his representatives, to withdraw an invitation to observers from the European Union,” and said that the decision of the National Electoral Council (CNE) of the Bolivarian Republic “goes against the commitments made in Barbados in 2023 to support the integrity of the presidential electoral process,” whose elections are scheduled for July 28th. “Maduro and his representatives must immediately revoke this decision and allow credible observation of the elections (…) that will generate confidence in the process,” the official said.
The US spokesman asserted that they will continue working with the international community “to support the aspirations of the Venezuelan people and a more democratic Venezuela.”
Gil stated on X that perhaps Miller “is used to giving instructions to the European Union,” and reaffirmed that Venezuela has been a free and sovereign country for more than 200 years and added that Bolivarian democracy “is solid and exemplary,” and they could teach the United States a lot how to “hold truly free elections.”
Gil expressed that the Venezuelan Electoral Power spoke strongly and “will not allow disrespect from any satellite organization of Washington. (…) It is time for the White House to desist from its constant attempts to sabotage our country and our institutions,” he remarked, and assured that “The surnames that hope to tutelage in Venezuela will not return!”
This Tuesday, the Electoral Power revoked the decision to invite the EU to participate as an observer in the presidential elections. “It would be immoral” to allow the EU to participate in the elections “knowing its neocolonial and interventionist practices” against Venezuela, said a statement from the CNE, which stressed that the presence of the European Electoral Oversight Mission would not be welcome “in an electoral process so important for democracy, the peace of the Venezuelan nation and the world.”
