“We hope that the ICJ resolutions are implemented without hesitation; that is mandatory,” Mansour asserted in an appearance before the press.
Israel, the diplomat recalled, is part of the Convention against Genocide and the Convention is very clear about this.
Therefore, Israel has to obey the decisions and demands, he emphasized.
Mansour thanked South Africa for presenting the case before the highest court of the United Nations as well as those countries that supported the additional provisional measures.
The Palestinian representative also advanced diplomatic efforts from the Group of Arab States and in coordination with other regional alliances to maintain pressure for an end to the conflict that has claimed the lives of more than 35,000 Palestinians.
“We will do everything possible (…) to see the implementation of the resolutions of the Security Council, the General Assembly and the ICJ that call among other things for an immediate ceasefire to save lives and allow our people to begin to attend to the wounds inflicted by this aggression by Israel, particularly in the Gaza Strip,” he added.
Shortly before, UN Secretary General António Guterres called on Israel to comply with the provisional measures in a statement released by his spokesperson. The UN head took note of the provisions issued in the case presented by South Africa before the United Nations court to prevent a genocide in the Gaza Strip.
According to the text, Guterres will present the announced measures before the Security Council, a procedure established by the UN for the highest body for peace to analyze compliance with the provisions.
The Court’s decision recognized the worsening living conditions faced by civilians in the Rafah governorate, for which it asked Israel to stop its military offensive, and any other action in that southern demarcation, that could inflict on the Palestinian group in Gaza living conditions that could lead to its total or partial physical destruction.
Furthermore, he urged to keep the Rafah crossing open for the unhindered provision of urgently needed basic services and humanitarian assistance.
Another instruction called on Tel Aviv to take effective measures to ensure unrestricted access to the Gaza Strip for investigative bodies commissioned by the United Nations to investigate allegations of genocide.
The court reaffirmed and called for the immediate and effective implementation of its orders of January 26 and March 28, 2024 in which it indicated provisional measures in the case.
