Angola gets ready to host meeting of SADC energy ministers

Luanda, May 22 (Prensa Latina) Angola is preparing today to host the meeting of the Joint Committee of Energy and Water Ministers of the Southern African Development Community (SADC), from May 27 to 31.

According to a press release from the regional body, the deliberations will focus on the progress made in terms of compliance with the decisions of the previous meeting and the security of energy supply.

They will also assess progress on SADC’s priority areas for sustainable regional energy sector development and the proposed creation of a regional transmission infrastructure financing facility.

The meeting will also review progress on the signing of the agreement to amend the Energy Protocol and initiatives to regulate the energy sector.

They will also discuss the promotion of renewable sources of energy, migration to cleaner fuels, including low sulfur diesel, and a proposal and concept for a Just Energy Transition for the SADC region.

In the water sector, water ministers will review progress in the implementation of transboundary water projects and the financing and development of regional infrastructure.

They will also assess the implementation of the second phase of the regional groundwater program, the actions implemented through the SADC Water Facility and other partners, as well as the implementation of the Water-Energy-Food Nexus project in the Member States.

Ongoing work to review the regional water policy and the development of a regional resource mobilization strategy for the sector are other items on the agenda of the ministerial meeting, which will be preceded by the meeting of senior officials.
