Taiwan’s new leader’s inflammatory rhetoric condemned

Beijing, May 21 (Prensa Latina) The inflammatory rhetoric of the inaugural speech given by Taiwan's new leader, Lai Ching-te, was deplored in this capital on Tuesday in a comment by Xinhua.

The text pointed out that what was said by Lai, who made the address a de facto manifesto for Taiwan’s independence, revealed his intention of sacrificing peace and stability across the Taiwan Strait for his desire for power, the text pointed out.

It added that Lai not only advocated the two-state theory, he even went as far as to label the Chinese mainland “a foreign country” and maliciously stoked fears of an alleged “military threat” from there.

The past eight years of sharply deteriorating cross-strait relations demonstrate that the Democratic Progressive Party (DPP)’s Taiwan independence position is the root cause of that situation,” he stated before warning that “it appears clear that Lai intends to continue along this erroneous path. The alleged “Taiwan independence” is a countercurrent of history and is the most dangerous alteration of the status quo in the Taiwan State and the disruption to regional peace; the article stressed and pointed out that its pursuit will only lead to a dead end.

Xinhua’s comment remarks that the realization of complete national reunification is unstoppable by any force and suggests that the people of Taiwan should join with their compatriots on the mainland, safeguard the common homeland, and steer cross-strait relations back onto the correct path.

Beijing’s consistent stance that the one-China principle is the foundation of the cross-strait peace was also reiterated by Foreign Minister Wang Yi during a visit to Kazakhstan on Monday.
