Italians demand end to US actions against Cuba

Rome, May 21 (Prensa Latina) Various political and social organizations in Italy requested the end of actions by the US Government against Cuba, affecting its people and destabilizing the country, a statement said on Tuesday.

In a message published on the website of the newspaper Il Faro di Roma, issued by the Network of Communists, as well as by the leftist youth organizations Cambiare Rotta and the Alternative Student Opposition (OSA), President Joe Biden is demanded to remove Cuba from the list of “States that sponsor terrorism.”

In the press release, the signatory organizations pointed out that after more than 60 years of the infamous economic and commercial blockade, the US administrations still refuse to “accept that the Cuban people are determined to resist and defend their course and way of life, without suffering external interference.”

“They do not accept that Cuba has demonstrated internationally the capacity to establish relations of equality and cooperation throughout the world, which is evident in our country since the arrival of the Medical Brigades during the Covid-19 pandemic, and more recently with the presence of Cuban medical specialists in Calabria”, they added.

That is why, according to them, “they have added numerous destabilization attempts over time, attacks on authorities, as well as on institutional and tourist sites, and finally Cuba’s inclusion on the State Sponsors of Terrorism (SSOT) list.

This last measure, they pointed out, has serious consequences for anyone who wants to deal with Cuba, from humanitarian aid to university research, including trade and the issuance of visas for citizens.

They noted that on May 15, the US State Department informed the Congress the list of countries that in 2023 “did not fully cooperate” with its “anti-terrorist” policies and, for the first time, Cuba was not named, although it is still included in the list of States sponsoring terrorism.

“We fully support the request reiterated by the Cuban Ministry of Foreign Affairs on May 16, to remove Cuba definitively from that list,” the note states.

On the other hand, these organizations assure that “we will continue in our country at Cuba’s side, promoting information and raising awareness on the progress of the Revolution and the Cuban people, as well as on the infamous consequences of the economic blockade to which the Caribbean islnd is subjected.”
