Colombia asks US to remove Cuba from all terrorist lists

Bogota, May 17 (Prensa Latina) The Colombian Government reaffirmed on Friday its call to the United States to rescind the unjust designation of Cuba as an alleged State Sponsoring Terrorism, which ignores Cuba's commitment to the search for peace.

That country further expressed its satisfaction with Washington’s announcement on the exclusion of Cuba from the list of countries that do not fully cooperate in the fight against terrorism.

The statement released here by the Foreign Ministry added that for foreign policy principles, the nation does not share this type of unilateral extraterritorial measures.

Meanwhile, it said that Colombia is grateful for Cuba’s support and enormous efforts to contribute to the search for peace in the national territory.

“At the time, this country was essential for the signing of the Peace Agreement with the extinct Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia (FARC-EP) and, currently, in the dialogues that are taking place with the National Liberation Army (ELN) within the framework of the national Government’s peace policy,’ he recalled.

The statement added that Cuba defends dialogue and negotiation as tools to achieve peace and reconciliation between peoples.

Likewise, it remarked, ‘to reiterate the call to the United States of America to rescind the unjust designation of Cuba as a State Sponsoring Terrorism, which affects migratory processes and, above all, disregards Cuba’s commitment, for decades, to the search for peace in Colombia and in the region’.

Commenting on the statement, President Gustavo Petro said that former President Ivan Duque (2018-2022) had committed an enormous injustice with the Cuban people.

The head of State also deemed that the full restoration of diplomatic and economic relations between Havana and Washington remains a target that would benefit the people first and foremost.
