Joint declaration between Russia and China opens new era

Beijing, May 16 (Prensa Latina) The joint declaration on deepening the comprehensive strategic partnership between China and Russia, signed by Xi Jinping and Vladimir Putin, opens a new era, 75 years after the establishment of diplomatic relations between both countries.

The document was signed on the opening day of the Russian president’s visit to China, his second one in just under six months.

Both presidents attended the signing ceremony of cooperation documents, and held a joint press conference and high-level talks.

Putin is also scheduled to meet with Chinese Premier Li Qiang, although no official source has confirmed this.

Chinese President Xi Jinping, during his meeting with Vladimir Putin, stated that the constant development of relations between Russia and China benefits not only both countries, but also the peace, stability, and prosperity of the region and the world. “China is willing to work with Russia to remain a good neighbor, good friend, and good partner, continue to consolidate the lasting friendship between the two peoples, jointly promote national development, and defend equity and justice in the world,” he noted.

The Chinese head of state congratulated Putin on his re-election for a fifth term and expressed his belief that, under his leadership, Russia will surely make new and greater progress in national development.

Xi Jinping believes that after three-quarters of a century, ties between China and Russia have become increasingly stronger, despite ups and downs, and have stood the test of a changing international landscape. This relationship has become a good example for major powers and neighboring nations to treat each other with respect and candor and seek friendship and mutual benefit, the president said.

The Chinese president recalled that over the years he met more than 40 times with Putin, maintaining close communication, which has guaranteed the solid, stable, and fluid development of their bilateral ties, and emphasized that the current China-Russia relationship has been hard-earned and must be valued and encouraged by both parties.
