The strategic partnership between the two nations was announced during the visit of President Bashar Al-Assad to China last year and will open new perspectives of bilateral cooperation in multiple fields, in the words of the Chinese diplomat during the signing of a partnership agreement between China’s Global Development Fund with the Syrian Arab Red Crescent (SARC).
Hongwei explained that the agreement focuses on the field of health, where China will offer assistance, including establishing mobile health units and primary health clinics and delivering food baskets to those in need.
“We hope this project will play an important role in providing humanitarian assistance and whatever we can in this context,” said the Chinese ambassador, who also revealed that China recently delivered special equipment for the telecommunications sector, which helped offer telephone and internet services to approximately one and a half million Syrians.
The head of the SARCS, Khaled Haboubati, said that this humanitarian partnership, with the Chinese Agency for International Cooperative Development, is the first of its kind, and is within the framework initiative of the Global Development Fund and South-South Cooperation to improve health services and providing support to population groups most in needs.
“We seek to improve medical care and ensure food security for affected families, amid the growing challenges facing the country,” the functionary said.
