The Regional Institute of Meteorology and Hydrology revealed that for the period from May to next August, there is a great possibility that temperatures in the waters around Barbados, Trinidad and Tobago, and Grenada will rise significantly, with serious consequences for the marine flora and fauna.

This entity mentioned that such a situation will lead to greater bleaching, as corals are more exposed to the stress of marine heat waves and then lose the algae that provide them with both their color and most of their energy.

Recent research has shown that the phenomenon is evident and worsening in several parts of the world, due to the effects of climate change.

They warn that if ocean temperatures do not return to normal, bleaching could lead to the mass death of corals, threatening the collapse of the species and food chains that depend on them.
