Russian law enforcement detains senior Ministry of Defense officer

Moscow, May 14 (Prensa Latina) The head of the General Directorate of Personnel of the Ministry of Defense, Lieutenant General Yuri Kuznetsov, was detained by law enforcement, as reported by the Investigation Committee of the Russian Federation.

The information explains that Kuznetsov was arrested as a preventive measure and on charges of being suspected of a criminal offense, even though it is not reported exactly what he is accused of, TASS news agency reported on Tuesday.

The note highlights the searches made at the lieutenant general’s workplace and home.

Kuznetsov served as head of the 8th Directorate of the General Staff of the Russian Armed Forces from 2010 to 2023, which deals with issues of the service of protection of state secrets in the department.

In May 2023, he was appointed head of the Main Personnel Directorate of the Ministry of Defense.
