Venezuelan FM regrets violation of UN Charter principles

Caracas, May 13 (Prensa Latina) Venezuelan Foreign Minister Yvan Gil regretted on Monday that in recent years the principles enshrined in the United Nations Charter have been systematically violated.

At the opening of the 2nd meeting of the Group of Friends in Defense of this instrument of the global agency, the senior diplomat indicated that his country, like others, is a victim of those violations with the breaches of the principles of non-interference, self-determination and complementarity.

The FM alluded to the fact that the Bolivarian Republic was excluded from UN bodies dominated by the United States, such as the International Monetary Fund and the World Bank, which apply unilateral coercive measures.

Like Venezuela, other countries have also been victims of the violation of those principles, including Russia, Zimbabwe, Palestine, the latter State suffering genocide in the Gaza Strip committed by Israel, which violates all UN resolutions, he stressed.

Gil said that in the face of that violation, the multilateral organization ‘does not react to the commission of crimes against humanity’ by the Israeli State.

The authority recalled that the United Nations was born after the end of the Second World War conflict and that ‘on the basis of that bad experience, the peoples of the world decided to launch this multilateral organization to regulate and create coexistence between nations.’

The FM confirmed that the Group of Friends arose precisely to defend those values and principles, and since its birth it has acted in the context of the United Nations in New York, Geneva and other multilateral scenarios.

Regarding this Monday’s encounter, in which 19 countries are participating, the senior diplomat pointed out that they will deliberate, in conjunction and in partnership, on a series of important issues in defense of the principles of multilateralism and enshrined in the UN Charter.

Participants plan to draw up a work schedule for the remainder of the year, and to be able to show the world their determination to defend all the principles enshrined in the Charter, which despite criticism ‘is the only instrument that guarantees peace,’ Gil commented.
