Cuba promotes exchanges and business in Cantabria, Spain

Madrid, May 10 (Prensa Latina) The president of the Cuban Chamber of Commerce, Antonio Carricarte, today held various meetings with authorities of the Autonomous Community of Cantabria, Spain.

Leading a business mission from the Caribbean island to Spain, Carricarte continued his tour of the northern regions of the Iberian country.

He was received by Eduardo Arasti Barca, Minister of Industry, Employment, Innovation and Commerce of the Government of Cantabria.

Arasti Barca, accompanied by directors of the Society for the Regional Development of Cantabria S.A. (SODERCAN), exchanged with Carricarte about the sectors with potential for development and the entities that could support them.

Likewise, the head of the Cuban Chamber of Commerce held a cordial meeting with his counterpart from Cantabria, Tomás Dasgoas, and with Angel Pedraja Terán, CEO of SODERCAN.

During the conversations, both parties evaluated the various modalities to boost business ties, highlighting the possible joint participation of the two entities in the 40th Edition of the Havana International Fair (Fihav).

In this regard, Carricarte delivered a letter with the official invitation to the important event.

On the other hand, a presentation took place before 18 Cantabrian companies from the ICT, agri-food, maritime transport, energy sectors, among others.

It is worth remembering that Santander, capital of Cantabria, has solid historical and cultural ties with Cuba, among others in relevant places such as the house that housed the Apostle of the independence of the greatest of the Antilles, José Martí, during his stay in this city in 1879.

The day before, Carricarte spoke with Ainhoa Ondarzabal, Director of the Basque Agency for Internationalization; Javier Zubia, Director of the Gipuzkoa Chamber of Commerce, and Saturnino Ornazabal, president of the Association of Basque Businessmen in Cuba.

The island constitutes the fifth destination for Basque exports to Latin America. More than 40 companies from that territory, most of them industrial in nature, are established in Cuba.

Likewise, Carricarte met with the president of the Gipuzkoa Chamber of Commerce, Mauricio Arregui Aulestiarte, with whom he analyzed the possible actions to be developed during 2024.
