The visit will be recalled in a meeting Friday convened by the Network in Defense of Humanity, Uruguay Chapter, at the Senate in the Legislative Palace.
Lawmaker and academic Christian Adel Mirza, historian and writer Roberto García, journalist Juan Raúl Ferreira, and Cuban Ambassador to Uruguay Zulan Popa will speak about that memorable visit and the legacy of Fidel Castro.
The leader of the Cuban Revolution arrived in Montevideo on May 3, 1959, on a trip of solidarity with the country and the victims of the worst floods that hit this nation.
During those 44 hours, Fidel Castro toured the affected areas and learned firsthand about local people displaced by floods.
