Solidarity with Cuba and Palestine on May Day march in Ecuador

Quito, May 1 (Prensa Latina) Ecuadorians in solidarity with Cuba and Palestine expressed on Wednesday, during their march on International Workers' Day, their rejection of the United States’ blockade against Cuba and denounced Israel’s genocide in the Gaza Strip.

From Quito, with flags and banners, friends of Cuba expressed their support for the revolutionary process and reiterated the international condemnation of Washington’s unilateral economic, commercial and financial blockade against Havana.

The president of the Ecuadorian Coordinator of the Movement of Friendship and Solidarity with Cuba, Lenín Reyes, told Prensa Latina that the Ecuadorian people’s causes are not unrelated to the Cubans’ struggle, “our main enemy is capitalism.”

In our May Day commemoration, we are raising the Cuban flag because it is an example to follow despite the adversities it faces due to the coercive measures imposed by the US Government, Reyes said.

He condemned the impact of the blockade on the daily lives of Cubans as it is an inhumane policy of economic asphyxiation that hinders the Caribbean island’s development.

Other solidarity causes were present in the mobilization on May Day in the Ecuadorian capital, such as the rejection of Israel’s attacks on Palestinians residing in the Gaza Strip and support for the cause of the self-determination of the Sahrawi people.

Thousands of Ecuadorian workers took to the streets in several cities to defend employment and security, and against the economic policy implemented by incumbent President Daniel Noboa.
