On his X profile, the Cuban head of State expressed his support for US university students, “who have taken side with justice, have supported the cause of the Palestinian people, and are brutally repressed by their own university campus.”

Díaz-Canel stressed that this May 1 “is also about Palestine.”

Cuban Foreign Minister Bruno Rodríguez, in turn, published a video on X that illustrates the US police repression against students.

Rodríguez pointed out on X that while Cuba celebrates International Workers’ Day, governments that present themselves as human rights advocates, show their double standards, repress and prevent the exercise and claim of legitimate rights.

The pro-Palestinian protests started at Columbia University on April 17 and from a few young people gathered, the flame spread to higher education centers in more than 30 US states.

On May 1, Cuba’s labor movement condemned the genocide committed by Israel’s forces against the Palestinian people in the Gaza Strip, and denounced the complicity of the United States in the massacre.
