Former Colombian President criticizes world order

Havana, Apr 29 (Prensa Latina) Colombian former President Ernesto Samper considered on Monday that dollarization and political unilateralism go against the willingness to establish a new world economic order.

By recognizing the dollar as a reference, we are giving monetary police power to the United States, he assured.

Samper asserted that ‘30% to 40% of international transactions are in dollars, which represent 60% of the world’s reserves, so dollarization must be reduced.’

The former Colombian President (1994-1998) Samper said that the harshest expression of this dollarization is unilateral sanctions on the opening of the 50th Anniversary Congress on the New International Economic Order here.

Nowadays, he explained that 31 countries have been economically sanctioned. They have about a third of the world’s population and occupy 70% of the world’s land area.

There is unilateralism through economic and political sanctions, such as the certifications of the United States and the European Union on human rights, the environment or the fight against drugs, Samper stated.
