Port-au-Prince airport to remain closed, danger persists

Port-au-Prince, Apr 19 (Prensa Latina) The people in Port-au-Prince, for one or another reason, are yearning for the opening of the Toussaint Louverture International Airport, where no airplane can take off or land as long as Haiti's insecurity still persists.

April 4 marked one month since the airfield ceased operations due to intense activities by criminal gangs in the area.

During a gun battle, a stray bullet struck the fuselage of a Sunrise Airways Airbus that would cover the Port-au-Prince-Havana route.

The runway area was surrounded by gang members, who waited for then Prime Minister Ariel Henry, who was returning from a trip from Kenya.

Henry signed an agreement to bring to this capital a multinational force led by Kenya to assist the Haitian National Police.

Henry is currently in Puerto Rico and cannot return home.
