According to the Government, several factors contribute to the situation, among them the drought in the areas where the most important hydroelectric power plants are located and some reservoirs are completely dry.

In the midst of this situation, the Government declared an emergency in the power sector for 60 days and ordered the suspension of the working day this Thursday and Friday, to carry out maintenance works in the generating plants.

The Executive filed before the Attorney General’s Office a complaint for paralyzing the public service against “22 saboteurs who sought to harm all Ecuadorians”, among them the former Minister of Energy and Mines, Andrea Arrobo, who was dismissed two days ago.

In addition, the Executive ratified that it will assume 50 percent of the value of the April electricity bill of households.
