That appeal seeks to cover with USD$ 2.822 million the most urgent actions to save civilian lives in Gaza, where the war with Israel is in its seventh month, and in the West Bank, which is suffering a wave of violence by Israeli forces and settlers.
The aim is to meet the most vital needs of 3.3 million Palestinians over the next nine months (2.3 million in the Gaza Strip, i.e. the entire population, and 800,000 people in the West Bank). This is over one third of the population of this occupied territory.
The United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) noted that this flash appeal sets out an estimate of the resources needed to reduce human suffering and prevent further loss of life and is based on the best information available at this time.
In November, one month after the outbreak of the war, the UN launched a first appeal for USD$1.2 billion in funding for the Palestinian territories.
The war in Gaza has already caused over 33,000 deaths, of which 10,000 are women and 14,000 children, in addition to 76,000 injured, and 19,000 orphans.
