Since March 1, the law enforcement authorities have seized money and gifts worth more than 46.5 billion rupees, or 546,288,000 dollars, the IEC, which also meant the figure as the highest ever recorded in the 75-year history of such processes in the South Asian nation, said.

It also stated that energetic actions will continue to be taken to prevent the influence of the power of money in the results of the elections to be held on June 1.

The Election Commission of India detailed that 45% of the seizures are drugs and narcotics and that the seizure was made possible by comprehensive planning, increased collaboration and unified deterrence action by agencies, proactive citizen participation and optimal engagement of technology, it said.

It stressed that the use of money from illegal actions beyond political financing can also be used to benefit an organization or candidate with more resources in specific geographies in the results.

The CEI reiterated that they will ensure fair elections under equal conditions for all candidates and parties, without incentives or electoral malpractices.
