Hasina called for the extension of cooperation in the sector during a meeting in Dhaka with Alexey Likhachev, director general of Rosatom, during which they discussed the issues of the Russian-Bangladeshi strategic partnership for the peaceful use of such energy.
According to government sources, Hasina called for the construction of two new plants at the Rooppur site, which was welcomed by the Russian executive.
Likhachev said that the implementation of the Rooppur NPP project is approaching its most important milestone which is the physical commissioning of its first unit before the end of this year.
He also confirmed that discussions are underway on new projects such as the possibility of building a high-power multipurpose research reactor in Bangladesh, which will allow solving tasks in the field of nuclear science and medicine.
During his visit to Bangladesh, Alexey Likhachev toured the construction site of the Rooppur nuclear power plant and Green City, the residential area in the zone of the plant.
