Colombo, Apr 1 (Prensa Latina) Sri Lanka donated one million dollars to the Palestinian government for the care of children in Gaza who are in precarious conditions due to the Israeli siege of that territory.

The Sri Lankan head of State, Ranil Wickramasinghe, handed over the corresponding check to the Palestinian ambassador to Colombo, Zuhair M.H Dar Zaid, with the sum collected under the so-called Gaza Children’s Fund, the Media Division of the Presidency informed.

According to the official source, numerous donors contributed to providing aid to the children who are currently suffering from famine and Tel Aviv’s constant attacks despite the UN Security Council resolution calling for a ceasefire during Ramadan among other reliefs for the inhabitants of the occupied territories.

The Gaza Children’s Fund is an initiative of the Sri Lankan President open until April 30, which is an opportunity to contribute monetarily to the assistance of Palestinian children.

The total amount collected will be handed over to the Palestinian Embassy in Colombo, the presidential office added.

The Sri Lankan government has reiterated its position of supporting the creation of two states as a solution to the Israeli-Palestinian crisis and rejecting violence.
