Vietnam’s economy with encouraging results in first quarter of 2024

Hanoi, Mar 29 (Prensa Latina) Vietnam's economy exhibits encouraging results today by achieving in the first quarter of the year a year-on-year growth of 5.66 percent of the Gross Domestic Product (GDP), according to official information offered here.

This is the highest increase since 2020 to date, said Nguyen Thi Huong, director of the nation’s General Statistics Office, who attributed the achievement to the efficiency of the Vietnamese Government’s management and operation policies amid the uncertainties of the global economic context.

The highest growth in economic activity was reported in the industrial and construction (6.28 percent), service (6.12) and agro-forestry and aquatic (2.98) sectors, he said.

Thi Huong said the processing and manufacturing industry was the growth engine of the whole economy in the reported period, with an increase rate of 6.98 percentage points, while construction was up 6.83 percent.

The socio-economic development plan for 2024 approved by Vietnam’s National Assembly (Parliament) foresees a GDP growth of six to 6.5 percent, a GDP per capita of 4,700 to 4,730 dollars, and an increase in labor productivity of 4.8 to 5.3 percentage points.

In the opinion of national experts, it is feasible to meet the goal set by the legislature, since the country has the driving forces of the economy, such as the promotion of public investment and the recovery of exports and consumption.

However, in recent statements to the media, Vietnamese Minister of Planning and Investment Nguyen Chi Dung urged improving resilience and building an independent and self-sufficient economy associated with proactive, deep and effective international integration.
