The diplomat also stressed that Panama celebrates, from 20 years ago, the Day of Ethnic China, every March 30th, which seeks to highlight their values and contributions to the culture and development of Panama.

She also noted that the incorporation of the Chinese New Year into Panama’s International Tourism Promotion Strategy, as an annual national holiday, demonstrates the generosity of the government and society in Panama.

“China, with a growing economy and increasing steps in its high-level opening to the exterior, will bring more opportunities for cooperation and shared gains to Panama and the other countries of the world,” she remarked.

In the activities for this anniversary, Mr. Art Tik Fung, President of the China Association of Panama, highlighted that the celebration is a tribute to the ancestors who left their lands in search of a better future and arrived in Panama aboard the brigantine Sea Witch for the construction of the transoceanic railroad and the Panama Canal.
