Universal Scene celebrates World Theater Day

Havana, Mar 27 (Prensa Latina) With the essential objective of making known what the theater represents for culture at the universal level, every March 27 World Theater Day is celebrated.

The celebration was created by the International Theater Institute (ITI) in 1961, and since then, acts and events related to the scene are celebrated in all languages.

Each year, at the invitation of the ITI, a world-class figure delivers the message that accompanies the event, full of reflections on culture and theater.

World Theater Day was first celebrated in 1962, and on that day the French poet, playwright and filmmaker Jean Cocteau delivered the famous International Message for World Theater Day.

Other relevant people followed, such as Arthur Miller, Laurence Olivier, Pablo Neruda, Richard Burton, Antonio Gala, Humberto Orsini, John Malkovich, and Dario Fo.

This year, 2024, Jon Fosse, Norwegian playwright and novelist and winner of the Nobel Prize for Literature 2023, will be in charge of the World Theater Day message.
