The victim is Carlos de Jesús Blanco Ovalles, 12 years old, who was admitted to the Thelma Rosario Burn Unit of the Arturo Grullón Pediatric Regional University Hospital, in the province of Santiago de los Caballeros.
Ovalles had third degree burns, the director of the center, Dr. Alexis Garcia, confirmed.
The tragedy in Salcedo, Hermanas Mirabal province, has caused commotion and concern in the country, especially because most of the injured were children. The day before, a 14 year-old adolescent, who was being treated at the Robert Reid Cabral Children’s Hospital for third degree burns affecting 90% of his body, also died.
In view of the situation, the National Health Service (SNS) regretted the incident and informed that two other minors are still in the hospital.
It reported in a press release that one of them is under observation in the recovery room, while the other is receiving specialized care in the Intensive Care Unit, due to the severity of his injuries.
