During their meeting, they will address issues of bilateral relations, according to the agenda released by the Secretariat of Social Communication of Guatemala.

Both authorities will also analyze how to tackle the causes that drive irregular migration from Central America to the US, a central line in the US campaigns leading up to the next presidential elections.

Other topics will be citizen security, respect for human and labor rights, gender violence and the possibility of generating more economic opportunities in Guatemala.

Arévalo and Harris will participate in a forum with government, business and civil society leaders within a public-private alliance to promote investment in the region with more than four thousand 200 million dollars.

As part of the visit, the president will speak on Tuesday with the secretary general of the Organization of American States, Luis Almagro, and will attend a protocol meeting before the Permanent Council.

On Wednesday, Arévalo will meet with the administrator of the United States Agency for International Development, Samantha Power, and will visit the Washington Office on Latin American Affairs.

Guatemalan analysts have warned that interventionism for geopolitical purposes and the neoliberal policies of the United States will not bring the necessary structural transformations in Guatemala.
