Western Cuba under heavy rain

Havana, Mar 23 (Prensa Latina) Cuba’s Forecast Center of the Meteorology Institute (INSMET) reported that since the crack of dawn on Saturday morning there will be showers, rainfalls and thunderstorms, which may become heavy and intense in some western localities.

INSMET further announced that in the afternoon-evening a cold front will arrive in the western region, with showers, rainfalls and thunderstorms, a phenomenon that will move towards the central provinces and will weaken in the eastern region on Sunday, March 24.

The Institute’s warning specifies that in areas with thunderstorms, the strength of winds and the height of waves may go up.

On Friday afternoon, from 13:00 to 18:00 local time, several local storms occurred in the west of the country, which were related to the movement of bands of clouds with showers, rainfalls and thunderstorms, associated with the frontal zone that moved over the southeast of the Gulf of Mexico and Cuba’s western region.

In addition alongside rainfalls, some wind gusts had been reported, which were significant at the meteorological stations of Bahia Honda with 66 kilometers per hour and Bauta with 75 kilometers per hour, both in the provinces of Artemisa.

Likewise, in Havana, strong winds were perceived in gusts in the municipalities of Arroyo Naranjo, Boyeros, San Miguel del Padron and Cotorro.

The population should remain attentive to the warnings issued by the INSMET, which is keeping a close watch on this weather situation.
