In a short conversation with the press after inaugurating the 2024 Computing Fair, the president stressed that the U.S. spokespersons maintain an arrogant and contemptuous behavior towards the Cuban people.
We are not accountable to the U.S. government because we are a free and independent nation that will continue our Revolution, despite the tightening of the blockade and the unjust inclusion of Cuba on the list of countries sponsoring terrorism’, Diaz-Canel added.
He also pointed out that Computing 2024 is an example of how the country bets on its development in a sovereign way and this event serves, he said, to show the Cuban progress in the Information and Communications Technology (ICT) sector in recent years.
The Revolution is very solid and Cubans are fully aware of what this process means, despite the economic asphyxiation and media intoxication with which the United States intends to intervene here and for that purpose they take advantage of any internal event such as the peaceful protests that took place recently and in the face of which we keep talking to continue looking for solutions to the difficult situation the island is going through’, said the president.
After cutting the ribbon that opened the Computing Fair 2024 at the Pabexpo exhibition center in the Cuban capital, the president of the Caribbean nation toured the 49 stands that showcase the technological innovations, mostly software and computer applications that will be present in this ICT event focused on the development of a digital society.
The inauguration was also attended by Prime Minister Manuel Marrero, the Minister of Communications Mayra Arevich and other authorities of the country who spoke with representatives of about 15 foreign companies present at the event, as well as 11 small and medium enterprises (MSMEs) and other exhibitors belonging to the state sector of the Caribbean island.
During the opening speech, the executive secretary of the Fair, Ariadne Plascencia, pointed out that this space, open until the 22nd, will serve for ‘the convergence and exchange of ideas and innovative technologies focused on the development of a digital society’.
With the presence of approximately 16 nations, the XIX International Convention and Computing Fair 2024 will present Cuba’s work in the use and capabilities provided by the Information and Communication Technologies, in the transition to a digital society with the necessary training of citizens to take advantage of its benefits.
Unlike other fairs, Plascencia stressed, this edition will not have a large display of tangible elements, but will showcase services.
