Schröder supports ruling out sending missiles to Ukraine

Berlin, Mar 18 (Prensa Latina) Former German Chancellor Gerhard Schröder on Monday supported incumbent Chancellor Olaf Scholz's decision to rule out sending long-range Taurus cruise missiles to Ukraine, which are capable of reaching targets on Russian territory.

“I think Scholz is acting as I would expect from a German federal chancellor at the moment,” Schröder stressed in an interview with DPA.

The politician did not share the criticism directed at Scholz for desiring to become famous as Chancellor of Peace by refusing to supply missiles to Ukraine.

“How long has peace mediation ceased to be the task of a responsible politician, both in Germany and abroad?” the former chancellor wondered.

On March 14, most members of the Bundestag (Parliament) voted against the transfer of German Taurus missiles to the Ukrainian regime.

Scholz, in turn, has repeatedly expressed his refusal to supply long-range missiles to Ukraine because Berlin could become involved in the conflict.
