China and Angola highlight friendship and cooperation opportunities

Beijing, Mar 15 (Prensa Latina) The president of Angola, João Lourenço, and Chinese prime minister Li Qiang highlighted the traditional friendship between both countries and the potential for bilateral cooperation.

During a meeting at the Great Hall of the People as part of a state visit, the president of Angola recognized China’s support in difficult times and thanked the help received during the Covid-19 pandemic.

Regarding economic cooperation, Lourenço mentioned the importance of encouraging Chinese private investment in strategic sectors such as oil refining and renewable energy, and advocated financial support for infrastructure projects, such as the construction of a military air base and an urban transport system in Luanda. He also addressed the issue of Angola’s public debt with Chinese financial institutions and highlighted joint efforts to find solutions that benefit both parties.

The leader expressed his gratitude for the collaboration and openness shown by the Chinese authorities, as well as the interest of numerous contractors and investors in contributing to the development of Angola.

João Lourenço also held a brief meeting with the president of the Standing Committee of the National People’s Congress, Zhao Leji. According to his schedule, he is expected to hold a meeting with President Xi Jinping in the afternoon.

Based on official sources, after the conversation the two leaders will attend the signing of a set of legal instruments aimed at strengthening cooperation between the countries.

“China and Angola share a traditional friendship. Last year, the two countries celebrated the 40th anniversary of diplomatic relations. At this time, relations are growing with solid momentum, with deepening mutual political trust and fruitful results of practical cooperation,” said the Foreign Ministry spokesman regarding the visit.
