Over 200 earthquakes in Conchagua, El Salvador

San Salvador, Mar 12 (Prensa Latina) Experts have recorded 207 earthquakes affecting the municipality of Conchagua, department of La Union, in eastern El Salvador, since March 5, the Ministry of Environment and Natural Resources (MARN) revealed on Tuesday.

Of the total number of earth tremors, only six were felt by the population, according to the authorities. Reports indicate that tremors began from 22:14, local time, on March 5 until 6:00 on Tuesday, when they exceeded two hundred.

“The Observatory (ElObservatorioInforma) registered 207 earthquakes in Conchagua and its surroundings, between 10:14 p.m. on March 05 and 6:00 a.m. on March 12, 2024,” the Ministry of Environment posted on Tuesday.

The magnitudes of the earthquakes fluctuated between 2.5 and 3.5 on the Richter scale and are attributed to the activation of the geological fault in this sector of the eastern zone.

The MARM continues to monitor that tectonic process, as a result of which no casualties or material damage have been reported, according to briefings.
