At the closure of the National Council of the Union of Construction Workers (SUNTRACS), its General Secretary, Saul Mendez, called on the people to join the SUNTRACS’ strike, in which new protest measures will be announced.
Mendez summoned the population to join the riot, which is also against the presence of the Canadian First Quantum Transnational, illegally exploiting copper in the town of Donoso (Colon).
“Fuel and electricity prices are going up, our public schools are deteriorated, and the 13th month was not duly paid, as indicated by the Supreme Court of Justice (CSJ); thus, there are plenty of reasons to take to the streets again,” the union leader remarked.
In statements to Prensa Latina about the closing of the bank accounts, Mendez explained that the current Cortizo Administration, and other previous Governments, subordinated to the economic and factual power, have been willing to crush the union, even make it disappear, to bring it to its knees, but they will never succeed, and we will be victorious in the new challenge, he noted.
Indeed, SUNTRACS managed to make the Ombudsman, Eduardo Leblanc, open an exofficio proceeding for the violation of a human right such as access to their bank deposits.
