The magistrates have three working days to transfer the file to the body that will be in charge of following it up, based on an analysis of the regulations in force, local press unfolded.

The General Secretariat of Guatemala’s Presidency and the Attorney General’s Office (PGN) opened a lawsuit against Porras for possible breach of duties.

At the seat of the CSJ, Attorney Julio Roberto Saavedra described that the complaint and request of the preliminary hearing is due to the refusal of the Attorney General to attend calls by the Head of State Bernardo Arevalo to attend the Cabinet Meeting.

The magistrates will have to assess that appeal and “appoint a special prosecutor to investigate implications” of a refusal to the president’s invitations.

On January 29, Arevalo announced that legal actions would be analyzed after the “frustrated” visit of the head of the investigative agency to a meeting of the Executive.

Porras then responded to the appointment of President Arevalo, stayed around 10 and 15 minutes, and then argued that domestic regulations in force prevented her from attending such type of meeting.
