Vallejo made the statements following accusations by the right wing against Chile’s Communist Party (PCCh), a party that has refused to join campaigns against Maduro’s Government after the killing of the Venezuelan citizen Ronald Ojeda.
“Some must stop the habit of persecuting or accusing a political sector for thinking differently because we already know the outcomes of such a behavior, they are dangerous and serious,” Vallejo alluded to repression unleashed during Augusto Pinochet´s dictatorship.
Vallejo, who serves also as PCCh member, recalled that we are in the 21st century; however, it is not crystal-clear that all political sectors managed to overcome the cold war was left behind a long time ago.
Past week, the Chilean President Gabriel Boric posted on X, “the visceral anti-communism of some political sectors and their related media is too evident. I know of no other party that receives so many ad hominem attacks and lies.”
