Unilateral measures against energy exporting countries are rejected

Pedro-Rafael-Tellechea
Algiers, Mar 1 (Prensa Latina) Hydrocarbon exporting countries suffer unilateral coercive measures ordered by imperial powers, which complicate the situation of energy markets in the world, Venezuela said today at an international event.

The Minister of Petroleum of the South American nation, Pedro Rafael Tellechea, made the complaint during the deliberations prior to the VII Summit of the Forum of Gas Exporting Countries, which will meet tomorrow in this capital.

“This event unites us as important energy supplier countries, whose importance is vital for the social and economic development of the people,” said the president of his country’s oil company, Pdvesa.

Energy security is fundamental to the functioning of modern society; therefore, Tellechea emphasized, “the crisis in the energy markets has an impact on the economy and social stability.”

In this way, Venezuela placed its liquid and gas hydrocarbons at the service of humanity for the development of people, under the framework of respect and a win-win relationship, he stated.

However, “the unilateral coercive measures imposed by the United States Government against our countries have affected a series of projects to strengthen the gas sector,” he said.

Despite the difficulties, he indicated, Venezuela found ways to overcome obstacles and recover its oil industry in a sustainable manner.

According to him, the Forum of Gas Exporting Countries is called to become an agent of superior international relevance, in order to achieve global energy stability. To this end, he specified, Venezuela proposes that the Forum be considered promoter of an Organization of Gas Exporting Countries, “for the price stability that our world markets require.”

The group currently has the participation of permanent members such as Algeria, Bolivia, Egypt, United Arab Emirates, Qatar, Equatorial Guinea, Iran, Libya, Nigeria, Russia, Trinidad and Tobago and Venezuela.

It also has Angola, Azerbaijan, Iraq, Malaysia, Mauritania, Mozambique and Peru as observers.
