Vietnam makes achievements at UN Human Rights Council

Hanoi, Feb 29 (Prensa Latina) Vietnam's performance in its first year as a member of the UN Human Rights Council (HRC) for the 2023-2025 period was described as successful by Deputy Foreign Minister, Do Hung Viet.

“Although there is still the longest part of the road to travel, with many difficulties and challenges ahead, at this moment it can be said that the first year of effective performance of the position of member of the HRC was a success for the country,” Hung Viet highlighted in an article published this Thursday.

He also noted that Vietnam assumed this high responsibility in 2023, a year in which the regional and global situation experienced various profound changes, and “although peace, cooperation, and development remain important trends, they face the greatest challenges recorded in the post-Cold War period.”

The official highlighted that last year the HRC worked with high intensity, completing the largest amount of work since its founding in 2006, and during that period Vietnam participated actively, leaving its mark from the first events with numerous initiatives.

He also deplored that, while Vietnam’s achievements, efforts, commitments, and demand for cooperation in the protection and promotion of human rights widely recognized, some international individuals, organizations, and politicians do not objectively rate their ability to fulfill the role of a member of the HRC.
