China-Cuba friendship is true, Chinese academic says

Havana, Feb 28 (Prensa Latina) The friendship between China and Cuba is true and long-standing, and it is at a higher stage, because we have similar political systems and goals, academic Han Fangming said on Wednesday.

In exclusive statements to Prensa Latina after receiving the degree of Doctor Honoris Causa in Political Science from the University of Havana (UH), Dr. Han expressed his confidence that Cuba, following the path of socialism, is getting closer and closer to a more prosperous future.

The founding president and sponsor of the Charhar Institute, an internationally renowned group of Chinese experts who study diplomacy and international relations, stressed that the honor of the distinction also shared with that institution and all those who promote academic, cultural and commercial ties between the two countries.

He emphasized the will to expand the ties of cooperation, friendship and people-to-people between both nations and underscored the value of public diplomacy as a fundamental element to guarantee academic, cultural and all kinds of relations.

Dr. Han informed that within the framework of the 24th Habano Festival, they are also promoting bilateral economic relations.

According to the resolution that accredits the title, Han, an important figure of science in China receives the title in recognition of his contribution to the promotion of humanistic exchanges, economic and commercial cooperation and public diplomacy between the two countries, as well as his contributions to higher education in the corresponding fields of expertise.

When explaining the reasons why Dr. Han was awarded the high distinction, Emilio Duharte, a professor of the Faculty of Philosophy, History and Sociology at the University of Havana, referred to his work as a member of the National Committee of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC), the Council of the Chinese People’s Institute of Foreign Affairs and other important organizations.

He highlighted that, as an expert in international relations and regional research in Southeast Asia, Dr. Han collaborates with articles for important media outlets around the world and is also one of the main contributors to research on public diplomacy in China.

During the ceremony, Dr. Han handed over to the UH a sculpture called ‘Common Ground – Ambassador of Coexistence and Peace,’ by Chinese artist Gao Xiaowu, as a symbol of harmony and peaceful coexistence between man and nature.
