The diplomat said in statements to Radio Sputnik that the top leaders of the NATO member countries, state leaders, foreign ministers and representatives of defense ministries began to disassociate themselves from Macron’s statement.
According to Zakharova, none of Macron’s associates understood why he made such a statement. According to a version heard in the Western media, he simply “filled the airwaves”: he supported the government of Ukraine amid a pause in the financial aid by Washington.
According to Zakharova, based on this version, Macron hoped that the statement would be an “inspiring signal” for the Ukrainian army; however, Kiev received “feedback” when representatives of NATO countries began to deny it.
“First they used Ukraine, then they betrayed it, and they will continue to use and betray it,” the diplomat emphasized.
