Brasilia, Feb 28 (Prensa Latina) Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva will pay a two-day visit to Guyana at the invitation of President Mohamed Irfaan Ali, and will attend the CARICOM summit.

The Planalto Palace, headquarters of the Executive Branch, confirmed that Lula da Silva will participate this Wednesday as a special guest at the closure of the 46th Conference of Heads of Government of the Caribbean Community (CARICOM) in the Guyanese capital.

The meeting addresses topics such as sustainable development, food and nutritional security, and “will allow boosting Brazil’s relations with the Caribbean countries.”

According to the source, during his stay in Guyana, the president of Brazil will hold working meetings with Irfaan Ali and the president of Suriname, Chan Santokhi, to discuss matters of bilateral and trilateral interest. “The meetings will provide the opportunity to deepen dialogue between nations, with emphasis on the areas of energy and integration of physical and digital infrastructure,” the presidential palace informed.

Once the event in Guyana is over, da Silva will travel on Thursday to Saint Vincent and the Grenadines, where he will participate on Friday, in the opening of the eighth summit of the Community of Latin American and Caribbean States (CELAC) in Kingston, the capital.

The summit “takes place in a context of revitalization of CELAC, which was paralyzed for a time after Brazil’s departure,” declared Minister Daniela Benjamin, director of Regional Integration of the Foreign Ministry. She remarked that “At the forum we will have the opportunity to make an evaluation of the progress that is being made and to know how cooperation will expand from now on.”
