The spokesman of the local Foreign Ministry, Meles Alem, pointed out that the cooperation agreements reached with these countries enhance relations with Addis Ababa and, in the case of Pretoria and Brasilia, will have a positive impact on the position within the Brics group (Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa).

Alem also referred to the memoranda of understanding signed the day before during the 36th Ethiopia-Kenya Joint Ministerial Commission, which serve as an example of the two countries’ growing desire to strengthen their already strong relations, the ambassador said.

The agreements seek to accelerate cooperation in key areas such as culture, tourism, oil sector development, wildlife protection, blue economy and fisheries, correctional services, among others.

The spokesman expressed gratitude for the Kenyan government’s decision to stop charging Ethiopian nationals for Electronic Travel Authorization.

He clarified that although his nationals will not have to pay for their visas or any other associated fees, they will be required to complete an ETA form online prior to their arrival.
