Thousands of American people call for solidarity with Palestine

Washington, Feb 17 (Prensa Latina) While corporate media in the United States barely (or sometimes) mention it, demonstrations in solidarity with Palestine remain today at the center of attention of like-minded groups and social movements across the United States.

It is enough to check the social networks to see what the mainstream press “misses”. In Washington DC, initiatives happen almost daily. On Saturday demonstrators will be calling for the end to funding to Israel and warnings against Israel’s attempts against Rafah, in southern Gaza.

Activists recently camped outside the residence of Secretary of State Antony Blinken to bring the call for a ceasefire in Gaza.

Meanwhile, Vice President Kamala Harris was interrupted at a campaign appearance in San Jose, California, where she was to advocate for reproductive rights, and was confronted with the Palestinian issue.

In New York, one of the cities showing the most activism, thousands of American people walked out of school and work and also rallied on Friday in support of Palestine.

During February the networks also published the protest by a group of American Jews who blocked the motorcade of President Joe Biden in New York with banners urging the Democrat to quit sponsoring genocide over Palestinians or “Ending Israel’s blockade in Gaza”.

There is no public appearance by Biden where that doesn’t happen. It is a demand that haunts him, which puts a discordant point to his presidential campaign for his reelection, as the ruler is supposed to receive only endorsements for the events he attends.

Protesters disrupt unrelated events to call for Biden to stop Israeli genocide. His campaign team is said to be redesigning strategies to deal with such an issue.

President Biden has recently traveled to Michigan, something that observers considered as unfortunate since it is home to the largest Arab-American community in the country, which, if things continue, it would call into question his vote in November’s presidential elections.

It was also reported that the Council of Bishops of the African Methodist Episcopal Church asked the U.S. Government to immediately halt all funding to Israel and condemned the war that has left tens of thousands of deaths among the Palestinian population in Gaza.
