“Let no anti-patriotic person come to tell us that we are violating anyone’s rights when we are protecting the rights of the great majority,” the president ensured on Thursday at an event in Manabi province.

Noboa praised the results obtained by the security forces in the raids conducted since January 9, when the existence of the internal armed conflict was decreed.

So far, over 8,000 people have been arrested, 241 of them for alleged terrorism, and the interventions in penitentiary centers continue.

Noboa’s statements come after Judge Manuel Peña determined that the Armed Forces violated prisoners’ rights amid the state of emergency.

In the sentence, the magistrate declared the Ecuadorian State responsible “by action and omission” for considering that the military incurred in actions against the integrity of prisoners by subjecting them to mistreatment that “could be torture” and should be investigated by the Ombudsman’s Office.
