The ECOWAS lawmakers pledged to hold the national dialogue as soon as possible and prepare a joint mission this week to work to that end.

According to the representatives, the consultation should lead to consensual solutions and create favorable conditions for holding open, credible, inclusive, and transparent presidential elections.

The delegation also called on the authorities and the opposition to refrain from any form of expression that could incite violence and fuel tensions in the country.

On Tuesday, the Senegalese Government banned a protest against the postponement of the presidential election and the extension of the head of State’s mandate, scheduled for Tuesday.

The social group, “Let’s Protect Our Elections,” formed by trade union organizations and religious and citizen groups, who called for the demonstration, also denounced the disconnection of the Internet by the Ministry of Communications for allegedly disseminating subversive messages.
