The initiative will be led by Under-Secretary-General for Humanitarian Affairs, Martin Griffiths, and the High Commissioner for Refugees, Filippo Grandi, amid growing needs of the Sudanese population after more than nine months of war.
According to UN figures, some 25 million Sudanese people are in need of humanitarian assistance and protection as the African country is currently facing up the worst displacement crisis globally.
Present round of hostilities alone forced over 1.5 million people to flee across borders to nations already hosting large refugee populations.
As a result, the Regional Refugee Response Plan seeks to support nearly 2.7 million people in five neighboring countries: the Central African Republic, Chad, Egypt, Ethiopia and South Sudan.
