OCHA reported an increase in attacks in Rafah Governorate over the past two days as thousands of the enclave’s residents continue to arrive in the governorate, including displaced persons from Khan Younis fleeing heavy fighting.
spokesman of OCHA Jens Laerke assured that the UN and its member states can bear witness to Israeli crimes.
‘We can make clear what the law says, according to international humanitarian law, indiscriminate shelling of densely populated areas can constitute war crimes,’ he insisted.
OCHA states that mass displacement into Rafah has increased five-fold in population since October 7.
‘The escalation of hostilities in this situation could lead to large-scale loss of civilian life and we must do everything in our power to prevent this,’ the agency spokesperson said.
