“We are confident that, under the firm leadership of the Chilean government, the Chilean people will be able to overcome the difficulties and rebuild their homeland,” Foreign Ministry spokesman Wang Wenbin stressed.
The catastrophe in the Valparaíso region is the worst since the earthquake of February 27, 2010, when 723 people lost their lives in that nation.
According to official figures, the fires have left at least 112 people dead and hundreds missing.
The Chilean Undersecretary of the Interior, Manuel Monsalve, said the day before that there are also almost 40,000 people affected due to the destruction of their homes.
