The meeting was convened by Cuban Ministry of Higher Education (MES) and will include the participation of representatives from 36 international university organizations and associations.
According to the organizers, 18 associations of rectors of Latin American and European universities will attend the event, among which stand out 79 deans and deputy deans from Brazil, 59 from the United States and 38 from France due to the number of participants.
Cuban Deputy Minister of Higher Education Reynaldo Velázquez recently told the press, that
the congress will provide the opportunity to establish alliances, agreements and cooperation links.
The functionary explained in a press conference that the Congress will continue the path of contributions based on knowledge to address the global challenges contained in the United Nations 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.
He stressed that in the context of the multidimensional planetary crisis and international conflicts in various regions of the world, it is pertinent to defend higher education as a public good, human right, and responsibility of states.
Several events will be held in parallel to the meeting, such as an international meeting on Conventions and the homologation of degrees between universities, which will allow Cuba’s access to new networks of global academic exchanges.
