López Obrador ratifies proposal on migration to Joe Biden

Mexico City, Feb 4 (Prensa Latina) Mexican President Andrés Manuel López Obrador ratified to his U.S. counterpart, Joe Biden, his proposal on migration, and not to ignore the causes that generate it. In an official statement from the presidency, the Mexican president told Joe Biden that any law that ignores the causes of the migratory phenomenon is doomed to become a dead letter.

The conversation was very profitable, of mutual interest, inspired by the good neighbour policy, friendship and cooperation, he assured.

In the respectful conversation we had with President Joseph Biden, we expressed that both Mexico and the United States are free and sovereign countries that can, naturally, define their own migration policies.

However, with the sincerity that has characterized us, we expressed to President Biden that any law approved in this matter that ignores the causes of the migratory phenomenon and does not address them is doomed to become a dead letter, and consequently he summarized his proposal in several points.

Among them, regularization of Mexicans who have been living and working honestly in the United States for more than five years.

Likewise, approve a budget of 20 billion dollars per year to support poor countries in Latin America and the Caribbean, where their people in necessity are forced to emigrate.

Suspend sanctions against Venezuela in order to reduce migratory flows. To lift the blockade off Cuba and do not hinder its development, to reduce migratory flows.

Maintain the program for the reception of migrants through legal channels, implemented by the current U.S. government.

Do not choose to build walls or close the border, because it does not solve the causes of migration nor its problems. It is pure political-electoral propaganda.

Combat drug trafficking and the consumption of chemical drugs such as fentanyl and regulate the sale and export of arms from the United States to Mexico.
